At the end of the 1980s, A. Heemskerk B.V. was one of the fastest growing companies. That meant that it was looking for new employees almost every day. Hence Bert (Sr) words standing next to Han in the toilet in early September 1989 and spontaneously said: “You’re going to come and work for me!” This direct approach appealed to Han, and after a brief interview that same afternoon he joined the company.

Colleague Gerda de Bruin
Our colleague Gerda de Bruin has been employed for so long that she has the so-called yellow-blue blood of Heemskerk Flowers. She has been employed for almost 25 years. In 1998 she started on the conveyor belt in the bouquet department. Since then, she ensures every day that all incoming flowers are distributed to the right departments. Employee interview: Jolande, bouquet department
This month we’re chatting to Jolande: a cheerful lady who has worked in various departments, and now feels right at home in the bouquet workshop. She creates beautiful bouquets four days a week. Along with her husband, who is often away at sea, she also manages a household with two children, a dog and a cat. Jolande thinks this is easy to do when working at Heemskerk Flowers.
